This hasmade our books deliveryanywhere from six weeks tofive months late, said DaveStaver, yearbook advisor.I am really proud of the89-90 Gothic staff. Last yearthey worked the first sixweeks of school finishing the1988 book; then they tackledthe 89 book and got it completed on time, he said.With the theme WeveGot It All, the 89 Gothicwas recognized by NewsfotoYearbooks as one of their top12 books in the nation. TheStaff was cited for their useof student art work, theirconsistantly excellent photographs, and their development and implementation ofthe yearbook theme. Thiswas the second time in fouryears that the Gothic receivednational recognition.The Optimist staff, although inexperienced as awhole, produced high quality issues, according to senior co-editor-in-chief MelissaSchwen.Weve made a lot of improvements and weveworked many hours to putout what we feel is a qualitynewspaper, added BarbaraMoffatt, senior co-editor-in -chief.One improvement madelast year was the transition toa new typesetter and printer.Both editors observed thatworking with a single business, The Herald-Times, todo both publishing tasks wasadvantageous. It was a loteasier working with peoplewho were just across thestreet from South, saidMoffatt.The Optimist published diversified articles throughoutthe year. Weve tried tohave a wide variety of qualityarticles covering major stories, editorials, reviews, andin-depth double page layouts, said Schwen.Both co-editors-in-chiefcommented that youngerstaff members learned a lotabout journalism and journalistic writing. There werefreshmen this year who had avery positive impact on thepaper. They worked hardalong with our other editors, Moffatt said.Staff members won stateand national writing andphotography awards foritems published in the paper.The yearbook sports negatives arereviewed for publication by the keeneye of James Gardner.ACTIVITIES / 193 |
