Description: South takes a break to rejuvinateIIFive, four, three, two, one— the harsh piercing soundof the school bell rings andstudents run to their cars andbusses. Its SPRING BREAK!and everyone, including theteachers, is ready to hit theroad.As one drives past theBloomington city limits andout of Monroe County, thetension and pressure seemsto drain from ones body. Itflows out through your legsand through the car and itstires, to be left in the dust ofthe road.It didnt matter whetherthe long-awaited destinationwas a warm, sparkling beachin Florida or the magnificentsnow covered ski slopes ofthe Rocky Mountains andColorado; OH TO BE OUTOF SCHOOL, even if it isjust for one week.For those avid skiers dedicated to the slopes, the journey was rewarded by some ofthe best snow conditions inyears. With a brisk breeze,sun shining brighter bea-cause of the altitude, andpowder fresh snow, somethought they had gone to askiers paradise.An additional 12 inches ofnewly fallen snow added toeveryones excitement. Asthey rode up the mountainon the lift, freezing but refreshed, the skiers lookeddown onto a breathtakingview of the back snow bowlsof Vail.As the day ended, groupsof South skiers relaxed in alodge with live music, fol-Scott Cochran, Steve Franklin andBena Donlick make new friends ontheir trip to Florida.Michele Deckard and Kim Richeytrolly it to Laui Kai Beach in Ft.Meyers, Florida.lowed by a trip to their hoteland a perfect end to the dayin a hot tub with steam lazilyrising into the air.Eastman Kodak undoubtedly made a profit over thisSpring Break. Skiers reported taking many pictures ofthe incredible scenery andthey were not to be outdoneby those who chose the sunand fun.Temperatures in Florida,the Bahamas and Californiawere perfect. Although thewater was chilly, the blazingsun warmed student spiritsand left everyone with an enviable tan. The nights inFlorida were cool with oceanbreezes blowing toward theshore.Walking on the beach withthe moon shining and thepalm trees swaying to and froprovided magic moments fora lucky few. An echo of music sounded across the beachfrom parties that could onlyhappen during this one weekof the year.Then the week was over.Even the last sad day wasfun. The memories of thefirst few days, the sun andthe snow in your face and th ;carefree atmosphere of totalrelaxation, fun-filled withlaughter and excitement, willlast forever.It was a time to enjoy ouryouth, a time to be young. Itwas time to say goodbye tonew found friends, traversethe long road home and finish the school year, rejuvinat-ed.I STANDING24 / STUDENT LIFE
