Description: Theatre productions captivatingTheatre Souths fall performancesincluded U.S.A. and The Silver Whistle.U.S.A., Paul Shyres adaptation ofthe book U.S.A. by John Dos Passos,presents a picture of American life fromthe turn of the century through the early1920s.Concerned chiefly with World War Iand the growth of non-industrial businesses, U.S.A. was staged in November.The Silver Whistle, by RobertMcEnroe, was performed in January by acast of 13. Lead characters were RockyPizzo as Oliver T. Erewenter, MarshallGrant as the Rev. Watson, and BethApplegate as Miss Tripp.The story centers on a group of seniorcitizens in a church-sponsored rest homewho have given up on life. Although thechurch can barely afford a new member,they suddenly get one in the form of Oliver Erewenter, a man who at the age of45 pretends to be 77. Erewenter,because of his activeness and fertileimagination, changes the lives of allinvolved with the rest home.A formal theatre organization returnedthis year after 50 years of inactivity. Theorganization, formerly called The Proscenium Players and Tech Staff, was formedto aid in fund-raising for theatre productions and to help organize the structureof running a theatre business throughoutthe school year.The 75-member organization workedon crews and sold tickets.Fund-raising activities included bakesales, car washes, dances, paper drives,benefit days from a local grocery chain,and a customized button sale.I ITOP LEFT: Mr. Beebee (Amin Istrabadi)and Mr. Cherry (Keith Cooper) hide tocatch Miss Hoadley (Melissa Ehman)sneak a drink from her private stock.RIGHT: The Rev.
