Bands rock NHS talent showiiiOn May 3, 1990 the annual National Honor Societytalent show was held inCharmichael Hall auditorium. According to some people it was the happeningplace to be. The acts included performances from several bands, a dancer, a duet,and a spelling bee that wasstaged by a few NHS members. The show raised over$800 and was the biggestfundraiser of the year.The talent show, whichtook two months to prepare,lasted three hours and included fourteen acts. Then,the judges; seniors ScottCochran, Michele Deckard,Krista Gammon, Sara Jensen, and Ryan Sprowles tallied up the scores.The first place winnerswere Dondray Brown andShauna Davis, who sang tothe melody of Always. Iwas personally flattered bywinning, especially in mysenior year, Davis commented.The second place winnerwas a disco gig known asSpandex Explosion. Fourband members, a vocalist,and four dancers jammed tothe beat of Saturday NightFever by the Beejees.Disco is a great way to express yourself, said guitarplayer Steve Franklin.Finally, the third andfourth place winners wereCBU and Fork In The Toaster. CBU played the music ofthe 90s including Cult ofPersonality, by Living Color. Cult of Personality wasreally fun to play because itrocked, replied guitar player James Gardner. WadeSherfick, Andy Whitney andOwen Hammer, members ofFork In The Toaster, performed a spelling bee skit.Several things flashedthrough our minds whenpeople laughed. We feltgood with the fact that wewere that funny, Sherfickstated.Jeff Backer and Dan Mathews showa few of their disco moves as theyentertain the crowd during the NHStalent show.Shauna Davis, part of the winningperformance, sings Always withDondray Brown.20 / STUDENT LIFE |
