Description: ISwimmers to stateJulie Bennett, Jennifer Woodard,Cathy Frederick, and Kim Richeysmile jubilantly after finishingfourth in the state finals.C ix girls qualified at thesectionals to advanceto the girls swimming statefinals tournament, at the IUNatatorium, Indianapolis.vvThe girls competedagainst some of the bestswimmers in the state andin the country, said coachPedro Sainz.During sectionals atEdgewood, Souths swimteam qualified two divers(Taunja Blackburn andColombe Taaffe), and fourswimmers: Julie Bennett(breaststroke), JenniferWoodard (freestyle, butterfly), Kimberly Richey(freestyle), and CathyFrederick (backstroke).The four swimmers alsoteamed up to compete inthe 200 yard medly relay.The girls took fourth placein both the preliminariesand state finals. At state,the team broke the schoolrecord by two seconds,with a time of 1:55.49.Theyve improved allseason and it showed inthe relay, commented apleased Sainz. I am proudof the team and the girlsfor their great effort, headded. We were not really expected to do so well,said Jennifer Woodard.
