Description: Angle Black gives her all in keeping the crowd energetic at theHoosier Dome.The foundation ofSouth spiritCheerleaders play animportant role inboosting school spirit atSouth. They try to supportall sports. To make this taskeasier, each team is assigned two cheerleaderswho keep track of theteams schedules. Asidefrom cheering at games,the cheerleaders workhard decorating everything from school lockersand hallways to the homesof team members. They also organize spirit-boostingevents such as spirit week.Cheerleading is a year-round time consuming activity. During the summermonths, the cheerleadersattend cheerleadingcamps and competitionsas well as having weeklypractices. Tara Thompsonsaid, *This summer atcamp our sauads got a lotcloser and had a lot of fun.Were trying to think of newways to keep up schoolspirit, but since weve gotsuch a big school, its a little hard.Ready ... Okayl says BrldgetteChambers to the cheerleaders duringa half time cheer to please the crowd.When not working oncheers or planning a spiritweek, the cheerleadershold various fundraiseres.This year new uniformswere purchased. Full-o-PepTV and Appliance Rentaldonated a television set tothe sauads, which they raffled off. For helping withthe dedication of the newShowalter Fountain on theIndiana University Campus,they received 250 dollars.The cheerleaders also soldIU football game programs,seat cushions, shakers, andPanther pops.Summing up all that theydo, cheerleaders agreethat its a lot of hard work,but its worth it! as statedby Lesli Smith. The thanksand support from theteams and coaches, andthe closeness of the sauadmake it a worthwhile andfun experience. Thecheerleaders try to keep apositive attitude and theyfeel that they have beensuccessful.30
