Thisclass, new to the Englishdepartment, is a science fictionwriting course. The one-semester course consists mainlyof writing stories but the classalso reads stories and watchesmovies. In addition, The classtakes the material they read andwatch, and analyzes thescience-fiction themes,explained Horning.Another addition to theEnglish department this year (amuch nicer one than theFurballous natives) is LindaHancock. Hancock teaches onefreshman and three juniorgeneral English classes. Someof her previous positions wereteaching remedial reading atIndian Creek high school andteaching on and off at Ivy Tech.Hancock said she had a verypositive first impression ofSouth. (Obviously, she hasntmet the dirty slimey savagecreatures from Furballous yet).Hancock said she found Southsstudents to be very boisterous;they obviously like to have agood time.Other English classes offerethis year included generalgrammar and compostionclasses, personlized reading anda class on speech-giving. W-131and L-102, college level coursesoffer students a chance toobtain college credits while stillin high school.
