Description: Boys track wins SCC track championship;1600 meter relay team makes the differenceThis years boys track teamraced to a 5-1 record in dualmeets, their only loss coming toColumbus North. It camedown to the 1600 meter relay,the last event, coach Williamsrecalls. Our team was youngwith underclassmen. It is ironicthat this same team composedof sophomore Chris Burnam,freshman Chuck Edwards andseniors Scott Johnson and ToddNolting, improved dramaticallyand beat Columbus North allowing us to capture the conference championship. Thatsame 1600 meter relay team c utsix seconds off its time betweenSCC and Regionals.The team went on to win conference behind the field eventssquad as well as the improving1600 meter relay team. Williams said thatit should be noted that Kingsstate discus record of 18911still stands. He established therecord as a senior at South.The team also placed first inthe THN relays. Todd Noltingsleadership in the middle distance races was excellent, Williams says. He worked withteammates and really helped geteveryone up for the competition.South won Sectionals andplaced 5th in regionals. Twoteam members went to state,Geoff Nordloh and Jay New-quist. Nordloh placed twelfth inthe 3200 meter run, and New-quist placed third in discus witha 167.1120 Boystrack
