Winning takes time;Novices gain experienceA young Panther girlsvolleyball team struggled to improve and build for the future. At times we played almost aswell as any team I have evercoached. Perhaps our biggestproblem was that we could notmaintain our intensity and playwith consistency, said GeorgiaTidd, varsity coach.Problems experienced during the season could be, forthe most part, attibuted to theteams inexperience. Only twoof the five returning seniorswere varsity letter winners. ThePanthers finished the seasonwith a 5-20 record. This years seniors workedhard to teach younger playersthe fundamentals and finerpoints of the game. They willreturn as spectators to enjoy thefruits of their efforts, saidTidd.Seniors Rhea Deckard, LoriLitten, Cara Conley, DebbieOclander and StephanieWalker were praised for theirleadership and effort in theBHS North sectional game. They tried to pull the teamtogether for a shot at the titlebut it was not to be. The matchwas a close but we failed tomake the finals, Tidd said.Coach Tidd also cited SusanSkirvins skilled play, whichearned her a spot on the SouthCentral All-Conference Team.Lori Dees overall contributionwas mentioned along with TamiEaston, Pat Holmes, Jill Nettleton, and Ann Stephenson.Senior experience in passing and setting took the attackto younger front fine playerswith limited experience. I knowit was difficult for these youngwomen to experience this kindof a season to build for thefuture; I am proud of their efforts, Tidd concluded.Debbie Oclander receivedthe B-Woman Award and RheaDeckard was named HonoraryCaptain at the Fall SportsBanquet.Intensity during a time-out huddleenables coach Georgia Tidd to instruct and advise her players.Look at her fly! Sophomore LoriDees is bewildering when she gets setto kill the ball.Varsity Volleyball 91 |
