i,New spirit in new facultyIf there were just two wordswhich would describe thefaculty, they would be excellent and successful, according to Dr. Gary Druckemiller, principal.Over the past several yearswe have been unable to addnew teachers at South and thisfall 23 were added. Newteachers bring new ideas andexperienced faculty membershelp to enhance and developthe skills of those who are newto our family, he said.Dr. Druckemiller believes it isdifficult to single out examplesof exemplary performance andachievement. There are somany things that stand out. However, I believe we shouldrecognize the fact that thesenior class had six valedictorians, all with a straight Aaverage, he said. The success of the boys andgirls basketball teams was akey factor in raising schoolmoral and spirit. Both staff and studentswere excited about the potential for victory. This enthusiasm spills over intobehavior and academic performance as well, Druckemillerobserved. I saw a new spirit ofcooporation which I believe willbe continued next fall.We should all note the extraordinary performance of theSounds of South swing choir, said Druckemiller. Under thedirection of Kevin Butler, thegroup won and placed well inmajor music contests.Another group singled outfor recognition by the principalwas the senior class. This isone of the finest groups ofstudents I have ever had thehonor to work with, he said. With both physical and mental ability, they have established a class record that will behard to match or break. In 10to 15 years, I believe we willlook back and see members ofthis class excelling in positionsof responsibility and authority, Druckemiller prophesied. Some credit for this success must go to South facultymembers who have workedwith these students for thepast four years, Druckemillersaid.Yes, I do have other things to dobesides geometry and basketball.
