Description: 1984-85 Blades best everThe 1984-1985 BloomingtonBlades hockey team, whichwas composed of players fromboth Bloomington South andBloomington North, finishedthe season ranked 7th in thestate.Blades coach Mike Hoffmansaid, The record doesntshow the kind of talent we had.It was the best team ever produced in Bloomington.Only 18 guys went out forthe team and they all made it,he went on to say. Theschools we played have 65-100people go out for the team. Itwas quite an achievement forthe team to do so well, and tobe ranked so high.The Blades were thesouthernmost team in Indianaand they tried to play gameswithin a 150-mile radius.The team was very evenlybalanced talent and playerwise, with seven seniors, sevenjuniors, and four sophomores,Hoffman said. Four of theBlades players made the all-state team. Included were NickLightfoot, Vince Eads, EricScott, and Jerry Terhune.Hockey is a team sport but anindividual sport as well and Iam very proud of these playerswho have worked together, butindividually also, respondedHoffman.Sophomore Jotham Burrellodescribed the year as an upand down season, very unpredictable and inconsistent.Were a good team that is better than our record, but weretoo crazy and dont take thegame seriously.Hoffman concluded by saying, There wasnt much fansupport compared to the otherschools we played who hadhundreds at the games compared to the 15-20 at FrankSouthern Center.Members of the Bloomington Bladesattempt to stop an opposing playerfrom scoring.
