Girls place fourth in SCCThe South girls track team, with only three seniors, placedfourth in the South CentralConference (SCC) in 1985, andCoach Barb Willsey was pleased with their year.Even though we didnt havea good dual meet record, I waspleased with the way we improved as the season progressed. We were a young team, butI felt we could have done better. We didnt have a lot ofgirls, and some had to compete in three or four events,Willsey said. She felt the main weaknessof the team was their distancerunning. The team also didnthave as many sprinters thisyear as in past years, whenSouth has been known to havemany sprinters, according toWillsey.Willsey named the teamsmost outstanding contributors.Senior Vicki Greer was a fouryear letter winner in track. Sheled the team in varsity pointswon, and she progressed farthest in the tournaments, said Willsey. She also named junior TracyHickman, sophomore LissaSomers, and freshmen AngieEads, Laura Farmer, and AmyMcDonald as outstanding. One of the strengths of theteam was that no one feltdefeated after a meet, shesaid. They were hard working, which was a very good thingfor us.The girls had good teamspirit; they were a much closerteam than in years past, andthis really enabled them towork together, concludedWillsey, ever optimistic.Senior Vicki Greer leads her juniorteammate Lori Litten in a meet againstColumbus East.
