Dawn to dusk at our placeSacrifice, dedication and skillwere a few of thecharacteristics of students inour place who participated inextra-curricular activities(ECA).Long hours from dawn todusk represent the typicalschedule for a student athlete,musician, journalist or thes-pian. Involvement in such activities require as little as fiveor as many as 40 or morehours per week.This is quite a trick whenyou consider that students participating in ECA programs atSouth are expected to keep uptheir grades, said Don Abram,assistant principal/Athletes arerequired to maintain passinggrades. I believe that most advisers in other activities expecttheir students to do the samegrades, he said.The hardships created byparticipation also included theweather. Members of the Panther Regiment and the FlagCorps endured the summerheat and the chill of a fall evenings practicing for footballgames. Students and fans alikefelt the bitter cold of winter asNovember came.Theatre South membersdisplayed their many skills inthe production of Mamewhich also involved membersof the music department. Thefall production for MaryForesters theatre studentswas Spoon River Anthology.Student journalists learnedthe intricies of page design andthe art of writing interestingcopy which communicated amessage to the reader.Photographers developed theirOpening night butterflies were wellhidden in the dressing room asfreshman Jamie Haddawi puts thefinishing touches on her make-up.A Piano Comedy made it to thestage when seniors Marjia Lundahl andShawn Luca performed in the NationalHonor Society Talent Show. The winingact was presented by the BoraxBoys.When the hand goes up the mouthgoes shut, instructs senior MegginCabot to Boyd Haggerty, a fifth graderfrom University Elementary School.Both were at Bradford Woods; Cabotas a LOTS senior, and Haggerty as acamper.way through hundreds of feetof 35mm film and more than1,000 sheets of paper tocreate a visual record of theschool year.Foreign language clubs andorganizations such asCooperaive Office Educationand Distributive Education addmuch to the schools curriculum. In both of these activities, students work assecretaries and sales personsin the community.The countless hours contributed by students andteachers represent an invaluable contribution to thequality of this school, saidGary Druckemiller, principal.We can all be extremely proudof their accomplishments, headded.
