Blades havebest season:state secondThe Bloomington Blades —a hockeyteam composed of BHS North, South,Edgewood, and Martinsvilleplayers —had their best season ever in1982-83.Highlights of the season were theteams 17-14-2 record and its second-place finish in the state AA hockey tournament, both of which are the best in theteams history.The Blades opened their season on apromising note by defeating perennialstate power Carmel 1-0 in a jamboree.This was the teams first victory everagainst Carmel.In early season the Blades hoveredaround the .500 mark against strongcompetition until a rematch withCarmel, in which the Greyhounds gotahead early but the Blades came back tomake the match a 5-5 tie on a last-minutegoal by South senior John Legault.In the state tournament the Bladeswon two close games in semifinals,squeaking past Lawrence Central (54)and Ft. Wayne Northrop (6-5) to set upanother match against Carmel, this timefor the state championship.Carmel jumped to a 5-0 lead, whichproved insurmountable.
