Description:	rr■■■:•-..•muMGirls B-ball wins sectional, in state top 32The BHS South girls varsity basketball team ended its 1982-83 season witha record of 12-8.The high point of the year, accordingto Coach Georgia Tidd, was defeatingBHS North in the sectional, after losingto the Cougars earlier in the season.Tidd said other highlights includedupsetting favored teams. In regionalcompetition the team defeated TurkeyRun but lost to Mooresville in the finalgame.I was very pleased with this team,said Tidd. They didnt give up easily oraccept defeat, which I think is very important .We worked all season to develop thebench and win sectionals, said Tidd.This also included a difficult schedule,according to Tidd. South competedagainst four sectional champions.Despite the successful season, Tiddsaid the girls did have some disappointments, such as their loss to BHS Northby three points and their first-round lossin the South Central Conference tournament to Columbus North.In sectional competition Southdefeated Edgewood and then BHSNorth the following day in a defensivebattle to which, Tidd said, the benchcontributed greatly. After that, Southplayed its third game in four days to winover Martinsville for the sectional title.The Panthers then defeated Turkey Runin the first round of regional competition, where they lost to Mooresville.Even though the girls didnt reach allof their goals, Tidd summed up theseason by saying, We did better thanmany thought we would and came in inthe top 32 in the state.TOP LEFT: Senior Karen Rattslooks over a defender for ateammate.TOP RIGHT: GIRLS VARSITYBASKETBALL TEAM.
