84 teambuilds forthe futureAs a small team, we got to know eachother much better; we also worked notonly individually but for the team as well.Shelly MillerThe optional (varsity) gymnasticsteam finished the season with a 2-6record, while the intermediate team(reserve squad) ended 4-3.Head coach Lisa Dwyer said that thegymnasts didnt do that well. After going 2-6 in the season, they placed fifth inthe South Central Conference (SCC)and didnt send any team members tosectionals or state.Dwyer explained that the team was ayoung one and that it was a buildingyear. She added that the gymnasts lacked depth. The team was made up of twoseniors, one junior, four sophomores, andthe rest freshmen.Of the four events—floor exercise,uneven bars, vault, and the balancebeam, records were broken in two. SeniorAmy Arthur set a new record in theuneven bars with a score of 8.2, andsophomore Candy Sutter did the same onthe vault with a score of 8.6. As a squadthe team scored a record high of 93.5.Arthur, who placed fourth in the SCC,was the team captain and also the recipient of both the captain and B-womanawards.Dwyer cited the teams strongest people as Arthur and sophomore Suzy Barrett. Dwyer said Barrett had a lot oftalent and was very strong in the floorexercise, as well as consistent.
