Description: New groups in language departmentThe start of the French Club and theaddition of a German exchange programwere two major projects of the 1983-84school year.The French Club met once a week anddiscussed different topics in French. Theclub also learned about French culture.Members raised money through a bakesale for a dinner at Le Petit Cafe.This was the first year the Germanstudents could enter into an exchangeprogram. The students from Germanyvisited from April 18-May 14. Studentsfrom South stayed in Germany from May28-June 26.The Spanish Club raised moneythrough gift books and Christmas ornaments. The club used some of themoney to sponsor a trip to Kings Island.The AATF (American Association ofTeachers of French) gave a nationwideexam to students this year. Three Southstudents, sophomore Shawn Luca andfreshmen Clancy Alexander and Julie Mc-Cullough, excelled in both state andregional tests.Senior Lanna Elrod participated in theSpanish honors program. Elrod spent hersummer program in San Luis Potosi,Mexico.TOP: Students from the advanced French classprepare posters to use in skits for their class.BOTTOM: Sophomore Ann Dilcher does aworkbook assignment in her Latin class.Foreign Language 55
