The main goal of thePompettes was to improve and give thecrowds a better performance, with lots ofschool spirit. The Pompettes worked to reach theirgoals by competing in the Ail-AmericanAuxiliary Association drill team contest;the Indiana State Music Association contest; and a competition in Hagerstown,Ind. They were invited by Edgewood toperform at its basketball game againstSouth; and they also participated in a fewcommunity events, such as the Fourth ofJuly parade. To get a good start for these activities, the Pompettes attended a summer camp, where four South girls were given the opportunity to go to Ireland because of theirdancing, spirit, and leadership. FreshmanJeri Lynn Deckard and junior Amy Smithwent to Ireland to perform in the St.Patricks Day parade-; however, sophomore Lora Myers and freshmanAnn Wilke did not. Each of these activities could not havebeen done without the fund-raising projects in which each of the Pompettes participated. They sponsored a pom-ponclinic for school age girls, who performedlater with Souths Pompettes. Other fundraisers were car washes and the sale ofpom-pons at the games.Another support group was theWrestlerettes. These girls were responsible for scoring, timing, bookkeeping, andrunning errands at wrestling meets. Theyhad regular meetings to discuss upcoming meets and to assign jobs. To helpsponsor the wrestlers, Wrestlerettes raised money by selling M & M candies andcalendars. The girls also baked for thewrestlers and served as a cheering section during the season.TOP: WRESTLERETTE SCORERS.
