The name was just one part of anew image that the band tried to beginthis year. Along with this new name, anew logo, director, and direction were apart of the season.Jonathan Gurney, South music teacherand band director, set the band into motion, trying to make the year fun and enjoyable yet successful.Band members competed in the RogerBacon Invitational, in which they receiveda fourth-place rating; the district contestin Columbus, in which they received asecond-division rating; and a contest atEvansville Reitz High School, where theyfinished sixth in the finals.The band participated in several community activities as well. In October thePanther Regiment joined North marchingband to play for the Oktubafest. Also,TOP: Senior Maggie Granbois blows up a balloon toshow her support for Norths marching band.BOTTOM: PANTHER REGIMENT. THIRD ROW: Karen Agranoff,Elizabeth Neely, Cindy Loffland, Beth Stein, SusanPark, Lisa Boruff, Jennifer East, Missy Roll, AmyClendening, Becky Patrick. NINTH ROW: BethJohnson, Michelle Richardson, Kristi Schober,Maggie Granbois, Missy Staum, Jamie Bass, SallyGranbois.South and North marching bands supported each other by decorating eachothers band rooms before contests. TheRegiment served as a pep band for thefootball and basketball teams.To ensure sufficient funds to keep theband playing, members sold TexasManor fruitcakes at College Mall duringthe holiday season. Other fund raisers inwhich the Regiment participated were thesales of Charles Chips products andmake-it-yourself pizzas.According to Gurney, the band doesnot want to be separate from otherschool activities. He would like to buildthe music programs together andbecome more unified. Gurney saysstudents have been very receptive to hisplans for the band and feels this will helpthe program go a long way.Drum majors for the band were seniorJulia Brabson and junior Zachary Smith.18 Marching Band |
