Description: Summer offers many opportunitiesStudents of BHS South were involvedin many summer activities, from swimming at Lake Monroe to camel riding inEgypt-Many students used the summer as anopportunity to travel. Senior Julia Brabson and junior Debbie Nelson, accompanied by their families, spent part of thesummer in Egypt. The trip provided manynew experiences, such as camel riding.Other students opted to stay in Bloomington and enjoy the recreation. Whentemperatures rose to the high 90s, manystudents chose to cool off at LakeMonroe. The lake offered many activities,such as sailing, swimming, and even jumping off a rope swing.Institutes and athletic camps were alsoa popular summer activity. A variety ofcamps included math, football, science,soccer, and journalism.Many school organizations were activeover the summer. The marching bandpracticed to prepare for upcoming contests and also attended a marching bandcamp. Most of the fall sports startedpracticing during the summer to preparefor their season.The summer has traditionally beenthought of as a time for high schoolstudents to earn money. Said one Southstudent, The summer provided me withan ideal time to earn money; my gradesdidnt suffer.Many students participated in the annual Monroe County Fair.
