Hoa left Vietnamby boat and emigrated to this country withhis family.Four South staff members retired thisyear. During the summer of 79, Frenchteacher Edith Thrasher announced herretirement for health reasons. CharlesBundy—physics, science, and mathARTHUR, Joann: Latin; Greekand Latin derivatives. BalesJoan: modern decoratingfoods. Bales, Ken: horticultureforestry and grounds; agricultural related occupations.Batchelor, Virginia: English;NHS sponsor.teacher—retired the first week in May, alsodue to health reasons. Earl and Ruth Gravesretired at the end of the school year toenjoy life, as they said. Mr. Graves taughtart at South for 27 years, and Mrs. Graveswas receptionist-secretary for 11.Various teachers at South receivedawards in 1979-80 for their achievements.Marshall Goss, horticulture teacher andcross-country and track coach, was namedRegion 4 High School Cross-country Coachof the Year. Constance Holland, social studies teacher, received an award of appreciation for services to mankind from AlphaKappa Alpha sorority. Spanish teacher JudyMorrow was presented with a nationalaward for correspondence course qualityfor a first-year Spanish course she had written.Stephen Inscoe, choir and orchestradirector, retired from teaching in May to pursue a musical career with Coe and Company. During the school year Inscoe cut aJsingle, Smile Away.Much teacher time this year was siplanning and preparing for the North (tral Assn. evaluation. A steering comrriof 12 South faculty members evaluate^school before the NCA visiting team caiApril. All teachers were involved, eaching on two North Central committees1writing individual reports.Teacher negotiations followed aapproach in 1979-80. For the first tin*impasse procedure plan was immented by the Monroe County Educ,Assn. and the Monroe County CommlSchool Corp. This plan was designsfacilitate contract negotiations for the 11181 school year. The agreement providea definite resolution to contract dispuino settlement was reached by both paby July 3.
