ThePanthers had an 11 -game winning streak atthe close of the season.Brand felt Ben Davis was the most exciting match: They always have goodteams. South won 5-15, 15-9, 15-10.Van Buren was the most memorablegame for Brand. All team members wereable to play. Although the match went tothree games, Brand felt they played well.Three of the four matches lost came earlyin the season. We werent playing togetheras a team, Brand said. Over the course ofthe season, however, Brand felt all the players improved.Several of the 19 reserve players playedin some varsity games. Becky Bell, PeggyHughes, Vicky Robertson, and SusanStarnes stayed on varsity for the last part ofthe season.Junior Susan Plew was chosen team captain. Plew, along with juniors Theresa Creekand Kim Harris, will probably play varsitynext year, Brand noted.The first freshman team at South endedits season with a record of 3-2. The teamwas coached by Norma Jean Johnson. Theteam was started because usually onlyfour or five freshmen would get to playreserve, varsity coach Georgia Tidd said.66 Reserve/Freshman Volleyball
