BOYSTENNISaces on the courtstory and photos by Ellen WillibeyThis season, the North Tennis team competedin semi-state, where Mac Rogers, a varsity senior, made it all the way to IHSAA state finals. Hesprepared for a long time. Rogers has played tennissince he was six years old and began taking itseriously at the age of ten.My sister played while she was really little,Rogers said. We used to hit all the time, and thatswhat started my interest.Representing Team North is a bigresponsibility. Although most of the team onlycompeted up to semi-state, Rogers carried thewhole weight as Norths sole player continuing onin the rest of the tournament. The [final] match, itself, was really exciting,Rogers said. Not many times do you havehundreds of people watching a high school tennismatch. After playing for four years, playing yourlast match can be bittersweet.I tried really hard to soak it all in becauseknew my high school career was coming to anend, Rogers said.Rogers has accomplished a lot in the past fouryears on the team, including reaching the final fourin IHSAA three times. This year, he finishedsecond in singles in the state.I cant complain about the results one bit, butI will miss playing with one my teammates, Rogerssaid. When one chapter ends, another opens. |
