Description: Fine Arts aaaaaaaaaART: Its More Than You Thinkstory by: Lily Terrell and Rachel CrabtreeBloomington Norths art program is one of the largest in thestate, consisting of painting, drawing, jewelry, fiber arts,stained glass, photography, ceramics, digital design,printmaking, and studio art. North is one of the very fewschools that really sees the importance of the arts. Being in afine arts class brings so many benefits to students and everystudent in one of these classes realizes this.[Art classes! are a stress reliever, senior SarahSackmann said. If Im frustrated, it becomes an outlet for meexpress myself and relax.Senior Alora Arnold continues this point by saying,There is way more to art than people think. There is somuch that you can say through art that you cant say withwords. It becomes a new form of communication.Norths program has also helped students in many waysother than expression. Several students have come to realizetheir passion in art through this program, which has led toplanning life within the arts.I started art my sophomore year because I needed a finearts credit, senior Betsy Guinn said. But I really started toappreciate it once I did it. Now Im planning to continue incollege and make it a career.Throwing For A CauseThe Soup Bowl Benefit has been a reoccurring eventat North for many years. 10-15 students come intoschool on a Saturday morning to make as manybowls as they can for about five hours. The bowlsare then refined and glazed and donated to theHoosier Hills Food Bank. This year the art programwas able to make 82 bowls.124
