Lacrosse: A Different Kind of SportA high school sport is usually broken up into three differentteams: freshman, junior varsity and varsity. They all arefrom the same school and they are all about the same age.But what would happen if this old tradition was takenaway? What would it be like if freshman were playing side-by-side with seniors and if Bloomington North players wereteammates with Bloomington South players? The lacrosse teams know this feeling very well, andthey seem to enjoy the diversity within their team.[This team] is really fun because you get to know a lotof people that you didnt know before, said junior AlecAppel, We do a lot together as a team and were aroundeach other a lot so the bonds we grow are really strong. The boys who play lacrosse have their ownBloomington North team, but what is it like for the girlslacrosse team, which consists of North and South students? As a freshman playing with seniors who have beenplaying for four years its a little intimidating, but once wegot to know each other and once weve had so manypractices and games together it was really easy to becomefriends, sophomore Lydia Freeman said.I like being able to meet people from South andencountering people that I normally wouldnt, junior RuthAlber said. The love of playing the game and being out onthe field together really brings us together because theres alot of reliance on your teammates so we all learn to worktogether.story by: Lily Terrell and Rachel CrabtreeWhat keeps you playing?I was convinced by my brother in eighth grade.
