Description: A MISSING PIECESometimes traits skip a generation. Neither of sophomore SarahWieligmans parents are missing teeth, yet when she and herbrother Matt lost their baby teeth, some adult teeth neverreplaced them. You would never be able to tell by the way she looks when shelaughs, or when she smiles. Sarah wears a retainer that makes itlook like she has all of her teeth.Sometimes its awkward. I usually take my retainer out to drinkwater and people see that there are two teeth connected to myretainer, Sarah said.Shes missing the teeth on either side of her two front teeth.Sarah wears her retainer all day, but Matt rarely wears his. Matt isonly missing one permanent tooth.Could such a physical normality cause the siblings to be teasedabout their appearances?I used to be self-conscious, but usually only Matt made fun ofme, which is stupid because he is missing a tooth, too, Sarah said.Intense physical activity such as cheerleading or track makes ithard to breathe with her retainer in. Most of the time she has totake it out.Missing two permanent adult teeth is not too bad.Its funny because I can put straws where my teeth would be,Sarah said.Even though shes missing teeth, Sarah can still talk and eatnormally. Shes not too self-conscious about her missing teeth. My missing teeth make me unique, She said.» by Grace Mullin13«
