Cross country is a true test of willpower. Talent is factor, but theperson who will win is the one who is willing to go through the most pain,Raphael said. Cross country is an exercise in mental toughness—a test of whoyou are. When Im in the middle of my race and Im in pain, I remember that Irun for my team. I leave everything Ive got on the course, so that when Imfinished, I can say that I had nothing left to give.[Right] Senior Christine Sparks runs in theBrown county meet. This season we had a lotof potential as a team, we were blessed to haveeight to nine girls competing with each other tobe on varsity. I love Cross Country because ofthe team, we are all so close and are really justlike a family, Sparks said. Going into Semi-state we knew that the competition was going tobe tough, and to make it to state we were goingto have to work for it with all that we had. Whenit came to race day I was confident; I knew itwas going to be a great day. We all went outthere as a team and got the work done. Westayed focused, positive, and determined thewhole 5k. Being able to compete in the Statemeet was an awesome way to end my years ofhigh school cross country.I▼JJf 4|g fI |/Photo by Lindsey Lawrence |
