He was born in Pakistan and moved toEngland in 1 996, then moved back to Pakistan in 2005.Finally, he moved to the United States in 2007 because hisbrother was attending Indiana University. For Kidwai, moving from place to place wasnt that big of achallenge. It wasnt that different because I had lived in EnglandOne difference was here I didnt have to get up andput on a uniform in the morning, Kidwai said. When he came to America he thought thathe should have a fake American accent;but according to Kidwai, it didnt workout too well. There are some words that arepronounced differently here thanback home; such as privacyand controversy, he said.Another difference between jlife in America and his homecountry was word meanings. For example, what Americanscall gas, in England, they callpetrol.Schooling was also an adjustment for Kidwai since he attended a private boarding school inEngland. Yet one difference made his life a little easier.Students at Kidwais previous school had to take1 3 courses during the academic year, rather than theeight required at North. However, Kidwai said his mothers admiration ofsuperior post-high school academics did play a rolein his familys relocation to another continent.Kidwai wants to go to Northwestern but said hewill most likely attend Indiana University. He planson becoming a doctor because his mother is a doctor, and she wants him to follow in her footsteps.Kidwai realizes that others decide upon such careerpaths by evaluating what it is that will make themhappy. He said he will base his decision on somethinga little more personal.I want to do what makes my mom happy.story by JessicaOsborneTE Tlseniors 149 |
