However, all of that changedMembers of the JV and varsity teams combined to create two equally talented, equallyexperienced state-contending teams.According to most Science Olympiad members, this change is groundbreaking. We were getting complacent with the oldarrangement, McDaniel said. This mixes itup. The new, inexperienced people are theprograms future.Working alongside experienced varsity members is a great opportunity for new people tolearn. These young and inexperienced people, suchas sophomore Yee Soo Chae, benefitted fromthis novel system. Were preparing the younger people for competition so they wont have a problem when theseven varsity seniors graduate. I have a muchlarger workload [than I would normally], and a lotof responsibility, Chae said. She explained that though its a lot morestressful working along with varsity members, itsalso nice to play an important part in the teamssuccess. In this situation you get to learn from the goodpeople, Chae said, where as if youre watchingfrom the sidelines you dont really get to do orlearn as much.IBy Zoe WitheredJunior Aaron Anderson works to create a car whose energycomes entirely from the use of two mouse traps.Photo by Jad Labban102 science olympiad
