Description: t the age of 17, junior Christian Brinegar has his ownbusiness, Odd Man Out. Hestarted out by mowing a fewlawns in the fall of 2008 andhe really liked it. Soon afterhis name got out, his busi- ness took off.In February of 2004, Brinegars father passedaway. This caused him to have a different role inhis house and in business. It shaped the way I see things in a businessway too. I think being at a younger age when [mydad] passed helped prepare me more, Brinegarsaid.Since Brinegar has his own business at such ayoung age, he is very proud of what hes done. Its a big part of my identity and how otherssee me, Brinegar said.Being a student and having his own businesshasnt been too hard for Brinegar. He has beenable to find the balance between school andwork and if he needs to hire someone its not abig deal.Even though he can balance school and work, his business has a lot of responsibilities.I make some big purchases of equipmentwhich is kind of taking a risk. It takes a lot of timeand money, Brinegar said.Brinegar does not make a consistant amountof money per each job, but last summer alonehe made a gross amount of nearly $22,000. Withthis money he has bought many things for hisbusiness.I have two trailers, two trucks, two chainsaws, two weedeaters, two zero turn mowers, onepush mower, countless hand tools like shovelsand stuff and a few ladders, Brinegar said.Brinegar does a lot of different types of landscaping which requires different tools, depending on the season. In the spring he mostly doesmulching, in the summer he mows and in thewinter he shovels snow. These are just a few of the many small projectshe does. In the winter time, when his business isin the slow season, he plays for the basketballteam.Basketball is during the winter so it doesnt affect my business that much, Brinegar said.In the fall, Brinegar built a large retaining wallthat was five feet tall and 86 feet long.I was still in school so it took me about twomonths to build. I already have a lot of summerprojects lined up for me, Brinegar said. One of Brinegars summer projects is to do allthe landscaping for a family that just bought ahouse.I get to design an intricate layout and make itlook good, Brinegar said.Junior Ghristian IBrinegar
