ever-ending seasonJunior runner cant find down timeJunior Michael Hoffmanns mood can be determined by looking at the scenery of where he is running. Hoffmann saysthat how he feels determines where he runs.If I feel nice, its more relaxing to run in the country. If I dont feel well, I run in the city because the scenery passes bymuch faster and it feels like Im running faster, Hoffmann said.Running is just one part of Hoffmanns training regime. During the cross country season, he has before and after schoolpractices in which he runs about 70 miles a week. In addition, the team swims in the morning. Hoffmann considers trackseason his down time and only runs about 50 miles a week. Despite this, he still consistently finishes first in his best event, the mile. Hoffmann is also on the 4x800 and often run the 800 and 3200. All of this training does have other rewards. My fastest mile time is 4:18, the sophomore school record, Hoffmann said. It is only 3 seconds off of the schoolrecord of 4:15.He says his main motivation is to beat the school mile time and to make it easier to get into college. With all of thistraining Hoffman has developed some stranger than normal eating habits.During season you dont want to eat protein, like meat; your body wont let you. Your body just wants carbs to replenishenergy, Hoffmann said. You also want to eat lots of candy for quick energy boosts right after runs. However, with this much dedication and training Hoffmann has little free time. He also runs a lot of 5k charity races, where you give $15 just to run, along with the school sponsored teams.Lots of times meets are on Saturdays, so I dont really have a Friday night, Hoffmann said.Even though Hoffmann puts so much time into his training that he has little free time, he still says that it is enjoyableand that he likes doing it.by Spencer FerenczyThe ScoreNwas• • •vs.finalEdgewoodW 100-32Brown CountyW 96-36Braves Relays1stColumbusEastW 85-47SeymourInvitational1stConferenceIndiana5thColumbusNorthT 66-66MartinsvilleInvitational2ndBloomingtonSouthL 54-78Sectional2ndRegional1stState29th(Top left) Senior Ryan Jacksonand junior Michael Hoffmanntake off for the mile.
