Description: Tefining traditionsSwimmers continue customs out of the poolThe boys swim team has many traditions that it carries through each year. Some are hard to miss while others arent soobvious. Whether the boys are dressed up or their hair is bleached or even gone, the swimmers set traditions. One tradition is morning practice. The boys have to get up early and be in the pool by 5:30 a.m. some days. They havepractice until 7:15 a.m. and then have a huge breakfast that the parents bring. The morning practices are hard, but I like that they make me get up and start moving, junior Daniel Jackson said. Many students at North are aware of some of the boys swim teams traditions, such as the swimmers bleaching their hairand shaving it in crazy ways. However, many do not know about their other traditions, such as the film that they make. The funny movie is my favorite tradition that we have, Jackson said. It relieves any stress that we have because itdoesnt have much to do with swimming and its funny.Another tradition is the boys sectional party. While the swimmers are on taper they are supposed to rest themselvesuntil sectionals. They look forward to getting active at the sectional party.I love the sectional party. We wrestle and it relieves a lot of stress. Its also nice because its the first activity we do sincetaper, freshman Alex Jerden said. The boys also support the girls swimming and diving team by going to their meets to cheer them on. At girls sectionals, the boys bring gifts and dress up crazy. This year they brought flowers for the girls. This year we dressed up as starfish because we tore a toy starfish of theirs. It was hilarious, Jackson said. The boys swim team works hard through the season and likes the traditions they have. The traditions, whether or notthey have a purpose, improve the season for the swimmers. The things we do just make it better, Jerden said.by Emily McConnell The Scorewas * * *vs.finalFranklinCentralW 100-83Bedford NorthLawrenceW109-76BloomingtonSouthW 1341.5-Invitational1138.5GreencastleW112-73ColumbusNorth Relays2ndSeymourW102-76JasperInvitational1stMooresvilleInvitational1stCenter GroveL79-106ColumbusNorthW 123-53Terre HauteNorthW 100-83BloomingtonSouthL79-104EdgewoodW102-74ConferenceIndiana2ndMartinsvilleW 105.5-67.5ColumbusEastW87-68Sectional2nd(Top left) Senior CameronAnderson rests after swimmingbreaststroke against Seymour.(Bottom left) Sophomore BenNewman swims backstrokeagainst Columbus North.(Bottom middle) SophomoreTaylor Alsop swimsbreaststroke against Seymour.(Bottom right) SophomoreBen Newman and seniorsAdam Schick and Ren-JayShei cheer for the girls swimteam at sectionals.
