Peters.The Reserve team had anexcellent season once again.Every year at North, theReserves have had a winningseason. With a 6-1-1 overallrecord, the 1976 Reserve Cougars surely had one of their finest years.The Cougars opened the season with victories over theColumbus schools, ColumbusNorth and Columbus East. Thedefense held up as the teamshut-out both schools winning14-0 and 7-0 respectively. TheCougars next faced a toughTerre Haute South team and thegame was played to a draw, asthe two teams tied at 6-6.Bedford North-Lawrence wasa formidable opponent, but theReserves pulled out a close victory, 7-6. The Cougars onlyloss of the season came as theynext played Terre Haute North,losing to the Patriots by threepoints, 9-6.The final three games of theseason were very impressive.First, the Cougars beat Martinsville 20-8 and probably the biggest win of the season came asour Reserves beat cross-townrivals, Bloomington Southsoundly, 37-14.Cougar defense showed upwell throughout the year, as theCougars scored a seasonal totalof 130 points to their opponents50 points.Coach Terry Thompsonlooked at the season this way:Teamwork was very importantand much in evidence this year.There was no outstanding individual; everyone did his partand everyone did an outstandingjob. As the season wore on,each person got better and better. Culminating in the lastweek, they beat South 37-14.They also beat Terre HauteNorths C Team 33-7. Thisshould be an excellent foundation for their continued progressat the varsity level.1. A North runner is brought down byan able opponent!18
