Description: The Cougar varsity team hadmore than its share of injuriesthis season. Mike Mossbrucker,the second leading rusher thisseason, dislocated his shoulderin the first half at BedfordNorth-Lawrence. Despite this,Mossbrucker carried for a totalof 342 yards this season. He wassecond only to Bob McGruder,who had a team-leading recordof 632 yards.Quarterback Pat Gladfelter, ajunior, injured his ankle and satout four games. Mark Scales,senior, and Phil Bomber, asophomore, both did well asthey came in to substitute forGladfelter. Junior Hal Hunter,who started at linebacker, wasinjured during the Edgewoodgame and was out for theremainder of the season.Seniors Doug Collins, JohnWalker, and Harold Duersonwere the leading pass receiversfor the team. Together theyamassed a total of 538 yardsinto the team total of 746.Bob McGruder led the team inscoring with 46 points. Gladfelter with 20, Jeff May, andBomber followed with 12 pointseach.In the opening game of theregular season against South,the Cougar men performedwell; however by a twist offate, they lost the game, 20-13. The fact that the Edgewoodgame was played on Southsfield, instead of becoming ourfirst true home game, did nothing to dampen our spirits. Wewon 21-14 in overtime. Thenext four consecutive gameswere lost, only to be overshadowed by the glorious victoryover Jennings County in theHomecoming game. The Cougars overwhelmed them 27-7.With the end of this season,North will be losing all of theirstarting running backs, and allof their most experienced linemen. Of these, Kelly Moranand Jeff May were elected tothe Hoosier Hills All-Conference Team. Doug Collinsreceived honorable mention.All of this years seniors didan outstanding job, not only onthe field, but also in providingleadership to the underclassmen.
