Taking ChargeStory by Alyssa McMath and Kelly BelcherThe North Poms squad traveled to Orlandofor Nationals in March.Leading the squad were seniors Macy Volrichand Erin Romine. Both have been on the pomssquad at North all four years.Volrich started dancing in seventh grade onthe Tri-North squad but has danced around herhome all her life.Volrich enjoys being a senior on the squad, because I actually got to take charge and be arole model this year.Volrichs best memory of her time on the squadwas when the squad attended Nationals in MyrtleBeach. This was a time for our squad to really bond, and we all became much closer, said Volrich.Volrich plans to attend the downtown HairArts Academy here in Bloomington next year.As for the other senior, Romine said she plansto attend Indiana University in the fall of 2006where she would like to study psychology. She also plans to attend the IU dance clinicand try-outs but is not sure if she will try-out ornot. Romine is very interested in trying out thissummer for the Indiana Fevers womens danceteam, the Inferno.Like Volrich, Romine also enjoys her seniorityon the squad.I have to know what is going on, make surequestions are answered, and make sure all thegirls know the dances. I have a bigresponsibility.Again Romines best memory for her careeras a pom was when the squad went to Nationalsin 2005.From beginning to end, everything flowed, everyone was happy to be there, and no one wasfighting or involved with drama, Romine said.It was such a good experience and a very goodopportunity for team bonding. My favorite thing about poms is being able to travelnation wide to dance and compete.-Ashley Stafford, junior (pictured right)Sophomore Brenda Wilson dancesduring half time at a boysbasketball game.
