Description: Sophomore StarsStory by Beth Kidd and Emily MessmacherThis track season has been a goodopprotunity for sophomore girls RachelDeloney and Molly Hirt to shine.Deloney set a new NSR State Indoorrecord of 45 feet, 6 inches in shot put anda Bloomington North record of 45 feet, 6.5inches.Deloney, as well as the othersophomores, have contributed to thesuccess of Norths team.I think Rachel Deloney is a strong pointof our team, Hirt said.Deloney has placed first in many shotput and discus events of the seasonincluding the Indiana Indoor Invitational,Monroe County Indoor Meet, and the NSRIndoor State Finals where she set a newshot put record.My biggest accomplishments havebeen winning nationals and state, andgoing to the Junior Olympics, Deloneysaid.Deloney hopes to set a new record forNorth and win state.Hirt has set the Conference Indianarecord of 5:06.80 and a new tenth gradeindoor record of 5:20.1 at the CountyIndoor Meet for the 1600 meter race. Shealso placed seventh at the NSR state finalsin the 3200 with a time of 11:21.61.The mile is my favorite race, Hirt said,I want to win state in the mile my senioryear.Sophomore teammate Bryn Taubenseeagrees that the sophomore class is verystrong this year.I see Molly and Rachel working hard atpractice every day.
