Hutchins is a startingguard for the North boysvarsity basketball team.Even though our result were not what we wanted oreven expected, the team played welland worked hard.Matt Ludwig, sophomoreFreshman Jake Mulinix said his passion for thegame started from the first day he played on hisdriveway at the age of four.Today, he is one of the leading-scorers for theNorth boys varsity basketball team.I remember my first year of playing (organizedbasketball). Whenever I would score, I would getextremely excited, Mulinix said.Mulinix has been playing basketball competitivelyfor more than 10 years. He said it has helped himbecome physically and mentally stronger.Coming from middle school, Jakes ability to scoreand his strength as a freshman put him in a goodposition to play higher level basketball, Coach AndyHodson said.Mulinix specifically remembers playing in asummer league tournament in Indianapolis. Hethought he would be playing for the JV, but whenhe heard Hodson called his name as the varsitytook the court for warm-ups, Mulinix was excitedand yet nervous.Even coming into the regular season, Mulinixsaid he was excited and yet anxious. Being theyoungest on the roster, he felt honored being ableto start on a 4A high school team.Hodson described Mulinix as a shy person at thestart of the season. He has come a long way andhas stepped-up.His teammates agree.(Jake) was very shy and nervous in the beginning,but after being in the team, he is not afraid to playthe game like he knows how to, junior GunnerHutchins said.During the season, Mulinix attended the 6:30 a.m.practice for a one-on-one workout with Hodson andother coaches.After many hours of training day in and day out,much more is expected to be seen out of Mulinix inthe season to come.You will definitely see more of Jake next year,Hodson said.Story by Atiqah KhidirPrepared to PlayBoys Basketball 77
