Keeping It StrongStory by Madisen Lehr and Callie ElmoreMany changes were made at the start ofthe 2005 football season. The biggestchange this season was the new head coach,Scott Bless. Although he was a first yearcoach at North, many of the players thoughthe did a great job with the young team.I really liked Coach Bless and with theshort amount of time he had to put the teamtogether he did a good job, senior KoryBowman said.Bless decided to come to North becuaseof the talented athletes he had seen in theother succesful programs here.Success breads success, Bless said. The biggest obsticle the team faced wasgetting to know each other.Coach Bless was hired in June 2005. Mostteams have close to nine months to preparefor the next season, but due to the fact thatBless was hired so late in the season, theteam lost about six months of preseason withhim.Although he was not around to get the boysready for the season some other footballcoaches stepped in to help keep the boys inshape. Some people who were here kept the guystogether working out, Bless said.Bless made a lot of changes on and offthe field this year. He had a lot of plans tomake the Cougars play at a higher level.I wanted to build an aggressive, hardhitting team, I wanted to make it fun, Blesssaid.All-confrence junior linebakcer SolomonGrimes said Bless is fit for North. He is a great coach and knows how to dealwith players on and off the field. He is funto be with, but we know when practice startsits time to work hard, Grimes said.I think my team believed in me and thats alwaysgood to hear.
