I justliked thet-shirts.9?-Abby Browne, seniorThis years annual powder puff game provedthat having the chant, it kicks to be 06, doesntalways get the ball down the field in football. Theagents of the junior team, 007, beat the seniors,Exit 06, 19-6.(The seniors) didnt seem to have it together, junior Ally Smith said. The seniors started the game with a setbackhaving far fewer players than their opponents. Many girls were not allowed to play because oftheir involvement in other sports that werecurrently in season.Though both teams were outfitted with customt-shirts to show their enthusiasm, there were otherdifferences between the teams spirit. We werent aggressive enough, senior AbbyBrowne said. The juniors overwhelming spirit trumped theloosing seniors for most of the game.Lack of interest also was apparent in theseniors coaching. No students helped coach thesenior team.We didnt have class spirit or senior coaches,Browne said. The juniors drive both physically and mentallyalong with the motivation of their coachesinevitably led to their win.(The coaches) did well, they were into it justas much as (the team) was, Smith.Practice, an important part of any sport, wasalso missing from the senior team. The seniorsonly practice was right before the game. The juniors however, held two practices.Taught by their peer coaches, the juniors learnedthe basics of the game, plays and tossed theball around. The girls also played some games duringpractice. We got to play red rover, Smith said. When it came time for the game, many parents, students, and faculty members came to watchand show support for the teams. After the game, both teams yelled cheers andthe juniors especially celebrated their win.I was made the senior girls were chanting afterwe lost. You dont chant when you lose, Brownesaid. It was great beating the seniors, Smith said.Story by Elizabeth RobinsOne Big Win12 Powder Puff |
