Description: Freshman FunStory by Kelly Belcher and Alyssa McMathFor the past two years, incoming freshmenhave been welcomed into North by CougarLeaders during the Cougar Encounter.This program is designed as a freshmanorientation to help ease the traumas andtransitions of entering high school.My favorite part of the Cougar Encounter (was)being able to find your locker and classes. I reallyliked (it) and wouldnt change anything,freshman Ethan Oppenlander said.The two advisers, Brittany Klein and JessicaWillis, are instrumental in organizing the CougarEncounter along with the help of the CougarLeader Council. The addition of the a pep rally,which included games and select CougarLeaders being pied was welcomed by theincoming freshman.Freshman attendence was record-breaking forCougar Encounter. The Cougar Encounter wasalso reorganized to better fit the needs of thefreshmen.Cougar Leaders had much more control thisyear than in the past. The feedback I got was thepep rally was a huge success, Klein said .The pep rally started off on a positive note whenthe Cougar Leader Council (CLC) membersshared with the freshman class their most-memorable freshman experience. As a result ofdoing so, it helped ease the freshmens fears oftheir first day in high school.Many freshmen were encouraged by CougarLeaders to get involved in the activities at North.Many freshmen saw the Cougar Leaders as agroup that they would like to be a part of inthe future.I would want to be a Cougar Leader becauseit looks like fun, (and you) get to meet newfreshmen, freshman Morgan Beard said.Some said they had the desire to be a CougarLeader in the future.I would want to be a Cougar Leader because itseems like the people had fun doing it, freshmanAmanda Holdman said.On the other hand, some freshmen thought theywould not be good leaders.No, (being a Cougar Leader) probably wouldnot interest me, I would probably get thefreshmen lost, freshman Molly Arnholter said.My favoritepart of theCougarEncounter wasbeing able tofind your lockerand classes.
