That was certainly the story for thisyears girls soccer team.It was head coach TylerCaldwells first positionas a varsity coach andassistant coach JillThurmans first experience with a high schoolteam. Returning players,whose team had onlyclub status in the past,were now playing an IH-SAA sanctioned sport.And most importantly,many came out and triedsoccer for the first time.Given all the new situations, the team did well.They experienced thehigh level of varsity competition and learned whatit will take to be morecompetitive in futurematches.Fortunately, many ofthe teams experiencedplayers are young, a reflection of the sportsgrowing popularity. Withmany of them returningin 95, they should adapteasily to and be familiarwith the coaching styleand programs expectations.Freshman AlissaPaynter finished the yearas the most improvedplayer, defending her roleas a wing back. Juniorand team captain KaraRichey was given theMaroon (mental attitude)Award.
