Description: The ProuA s the football team** exited the field athalf-time, on marched all116 members of the proudMarching Cougar Band.With the new uniformsfrom the year before and acouple of added features,the whole band sparkled.Janice Stockhouse, theband director, said by theend of the season the bandhad made giant steps sincethey began in August. Thegroup worked hard andlearned routines thatenhanced their selection ofmusic.Marching band practicesstarted three weeks beforeschool did. The new marchers attended several nightrehearsals for the first twoweeks, learning some of thebasics. Then came the weekeveryone looks forward toand dreads at the sametime, Band Camp week.One week before schoolall the members — flags andrifles included —attend a9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. intense band camp. Finallythe year begins with a marching band class everyday,and one or two nighting Cougar Bandrehearsals a week. Runningall of these rehearsals wasMiss Stockhouse, with helpfrom two drum majors, NeilMarcus and Teresa Steel.Both were very helpful anddid an excellent job. Allthree put in a great deal oftime and effort.The band parents alsohelp to keep the band program running. They runconcessions, sew uniforms,chaperone buses, and contribute in dozens of otherways. Without their helpthe band would not havemade it to contests thisyear. The band broughthome two trophies. At theI.S.S.M.A. contest the col-orguard was given a trophyfor outstanding auxilary, indivision A.The color guard consisted of 16 girls. A new addition this year was rifles.Under the leadership ofCaptain Kim Flowers, theyperformed with grace, flare,and style. They added theperfect something to theband that separated themfrom good to great.26 Marching Band
