■ ■ inNorth Central Team Visits CougarsDuring the first week in February, North wasvisited by a thirty-member North Central Association evaluation team. Principal James Harveycalled it a very important week for BloomingtnNorth. Indeed, that is what it was.Bloomington North is seeking accreditationin both academic and non-academic endeavors.North compiled its own self-evaluation in fifteen areas. The evaluators used these reportsextensively during their four day stay at Bloomington North.The self-evaluation was made up of 23 specific reports. Included in the reports were generalareas and fourteen reports covering particularareas. These reports were compiled by a committee of one chairperson, four teachers, a studentand a parent. The self-evaluation has taken twoyears, and covered aspects of the specific areasuch as the quality of classes as well as the quality of the teaching staff and administration. Ittook more than one hundred and forty people tosuccessfully complete the self-evaluation.The reports were used extensively by thethirty evaluators during their stay at North.North Centrals objctive is to insure that Bloomington North is worthy of accreditation. This isimportant to students at Bloomington North. Adiploma from an accredited school is definitelyan asset. College admission boards know thatyou received a top quality education.Finally, after the long process of self-evaluation was completed, the evaluating team visitedNorth. During their short four-day stay, theystrived to gather input from teachers as well asstudents. They also observed each teacher on atleast two separate occasions.The evaluating team was impressed with whatthey saw. They found dedicated staff members,friendly, mature students and a clean building.The vocational schools Resource Center washighly praised as well as the rest of the vocational school. The Media Center, library, andSupport-Success Program were applauded aswell.On the negative side, the Associationexpressed the need to rebalance the teacher/student ratio and update equipment and textbooks.However, the positive points far outweighedthe negative.
