Office of School House. One night Later.Enter: Three Owls.2nd Owl-Why plot we this ill fated deed?3rd Owl:-The faculty will think that they,Who are the youngest in our school,Have done this deed to show their sand.But we, the Seniors, “Strut and Fret”Around the young and innocent.1st Owl:--If ‘twere done when ‘tis done,‘Tis well ‘twas done quickly.3rd Owl:-Such I account thy bravery.1st Owl:--What if the janitor should come?Methinks ‘tis then I’d fade away,And leave the darkness all to thee;Or else his life must pay the costFor crossing such a dangerous path.(Turning to 2nd Owl)--On the third floor thy mischief do.Leave not thy trace in tint or hue.(To 3rd Owl)-And o’er the second floor you spreadThis liquid which I have prepared.Exeunt 2nd and 3rd Owls.I’d rather be what is destroyedThan do this thing, a work devoid.Forsooth my hair is stiff and hoar,Just like the bristles of the boar.It stands erect. And when I walkI scarcely touch the ground. A poundWorld counterpoise my weight.Alack! Why should I fear myself?This knife will do what I command;It longs to taste of human blood-To drink the liquid, warm and red;And quench the thirst, I will, if theySee fit to seek the schemes we play.To be or not to be a foolIs but the asking of the same.I chanced to know my own degree.Ill jump the world that is to come;My lifes a bubble in the wind:42 |
