VARSITY CHEERLEADERS . . . Front row:Jo Alice Whitehead, Lorna Chitwood, Linda Wilbur. Back row: Millie Yost, Sue Wall,Jerry Lou Blackburn.In an effort to increase enthusiasm among thefans of our athletic teams, the panther cheerleadersworked hard this year at practice sessions, pep rallies, and games. During the spring of 1964, a boardof judges, composed of students and faculty, selected twelve girls from those trying out to serveon the varsity and reserve cheerleading squads.Then during the summer and through the schoolyear, these cheerleaders, with their sponsor, metsometimes as often as three times a week to practicecheers and plan activities to boost spirit. Some ofthese activities included a bonfire pep rally, signsand posters, and weekly practices with a groupof interested boosters. In November of 1964, thevarsity squad attended an annual conference atI.U. Here they competed against other squads fromaround the state.B\mRESERVE CHEERLEADERS . . .
