The MADRIGAL SINGERS act as a public relationsgroup at B.H.S. because they represent the school inalmost everything they do. The Madrigals were firstorganized in 1951 by Miss Helen Schwend, the directorat that time.Madrigals singers were the mode of entertainmentin medieval times and sang unaccompanied. Now theysing madrigal songs, classical music, semi-classical music,folk songs, and some popular songs. The purpose ofthe Madrigals was to arrive at a better understandingof choral music and to perform a variety of music suitable for a small group of select singers. Membership inthis select group of vocal music students is gained bycompetitive tryouts. The Madrigals consisted of twelvemembers this year.The Madrigals appeared before many communitygroups this year. They sang for church services, meetings, and suppers. In the fall of this year, they performed before the Rotary Club, the Kiwanis Club, andthe Lions Club. During the Christmas season they performed for the Johnsons Creamery and the CurryBuick Christmas banquets. They sang in school choralconcerts, also. This year the Madrigals had the uniqueexperience of singing at the wedding of a faculty member.Barbara Clark was the chairman of the group.
