Gothic StaffWork on the GOTHIC was begun in April of 1942 when the studentbody elected Mary Emma Rush, editor-in-chief, Manuel Tzouanakis, business manager, and Mr. Stubbs, appointed editorial advisor. In Septemberof 1943 the staff was announced, and Miss Gilstrap and Mr. Wonnell wereappointed editorial and financial advisors, respectively, due to the resignation of Mr. Stubbs. Mrs. Atkins replaced Mr. Wonnell after he was calledinto the service.Undaunted by any of the disappointments received because of warshortages, the staff has put its dreams and desires into the GOTHICof 1943. The staff wishes to thank the administration, the faculty, andthe student body, without whose help the book could not have beenprinted. We also wish to thank Mr. Stradling and his staff who assumedthe task of printing the GOTHIC.Optimist StaffContinually at work to give the school a true, complete story ofour high school life and activities are the untiring students of the Optimiststaff.To qualify for a staff position, the student must have had twelveinches of printed material in the Optimist.All students of B. H. S. look forward to Friday, the day when theOptimist comes out; and everyone is anxious to see if he made the gossippage, half hoping he did, and half afraid he didnt.Members of the staff this year are: Margarette Clark, editor-in-chief;Thekla Thrasher, assistant editor; Howard House, make-up editor; PhillipDuncan, feature editor; Betty Morgan, club editor; June Hart, exchangeeditor; and Jack Finley, sports editor. Advertising solicitors are MarjorieMinton and Nancy Winans.The following students are reporters: Jim Humphrey, Barbara Atkins,Peggy Hall, Marjorie Burns, Don Blackwell, Carolyn Adams, Max Bender,Jean Hart, Victor Locasio, John Tzouanakis, and Betty Lanam. TheklaThrasher was the editor-in-chief for the first semester. Miss Hopewellis the faculty advisor of the school paper.Quill and ScrollAspiring writers in B. H. S. are the members of Quill and Scroll,international honor society for high school journalists. The society isopen to junior and senior members of the newspaper and yearbook staffswho can meet the following qualifications:Members must be in the upper third of their class, must be recommended by their sponsor as having done outstanding work, and must havesamples of their work approved by the executive secretary of the society.Activities include both rough and serious initiations and the writingof the senior class Will and Prophecy.Betty Morgan and Mary E. Rush were elected in their junior year.The following students have been accepted for membership in Quilland Scroll: Barbara Atkins, Jimmie Humphrey, Jack Finley, MargaretBinkley, Mary Lee Adams, Margarette Clark, Phillip Duncan, TheklaThrasher, and Catherine Fox. |
