H. S. A. A. indoor track meets was held inthe university fieldhouse, April 4, this year, and it proved to be verysuccessful. Although the locals only scored 5V2 points in this meet theirshowing encouraged both themselves and their backers. The following Friday the Panthers journeyed to Indianapolis andparticipated in a triangular meet with Shortridge and Washington, bothof that city. In this meet the boys placed third, but they returned homewith the determination to improve and really do something. The next Friday, Bloomington met and defeated Salem 57 to 42 onthe new athletic field. As the track was still soft the races were slow.Nevertheless the distances and times of this meet went as records for thenew field and will remain so until broken. The last meet that the Purple participated in before the Gothic wentto press was the South Central, held at Vincennes, April 2 5. The Pantherswere not able to repeat their victory of 1930 but finished third in a fieldof six. For six previous consecutive years Bloomington had been victorious in the half mile relay, so when the relay team went to Vincennes thisyear they were determined to keep the record perfect. By running abeautiful race on a bad day the relay team, composed of Bartlett, Underwood, Siebenthal, and Spriggs, hung up the seventh victory and wonfor the high school a gorgeous plaque.Page Eighty-one |
