Description: ADMINISTRATIONThe Assistant Principal of Bloomington HighSchool, MR. EDWARD H. CUDDY, has a veryimportant job. Some of his jobs are supervisingthe Introduction to Teaching program, makingthe program election sheets, making the ruraltransfer students reports, assigning personnel toathletic events, sponsoring Student Council, giving general supervision to the main office, andmaking announcements over the public addresssystem. Mr. Cuddy also takes care of all facetsin keeping the school in operation which includesgetting substitute teachers. The Introduction toTeaching program is for students planning tobecome teachers. They are assigned to a teacherin one of the elementary schools, and report tothe assigned teacher one period each day andhelp that teacher. Mr. Cuddy is also chairmanof the Convocation Committee consisting of students and teachers who plan the convocations.It is the custom of B.H.S. to try and have twoconvocations each month during the school year.Mr. Cuddy received his A.B. degree fromFranklin College in 1933 and his M.S. degreefrom Indiana University in 1941. In addition tothese he also attended California PolytechnicUniversity and had additional work at I.U.Bloomington High School is run very smoothlyand efficiently by the capable hands of DR.DONALD L. SIMON, the principal. Some of hismany duties are the supervision of the teachingstaff, providing leadership in curriculum changes,and scheduling of the school program.Since B.H.S. now has eighty-five teachers onthe faculty this year, there are numerous responsibilities for Dr. Simon. He tries to visit classrooms and give the teachers suggestions, especially the new teachers who have not had muchexperience. He sometimes talks to B.H.S. students during their club meetings. Although wedo have student counselors in the guidanceoffice, Dr. Simon attempts to help students whohave special problems. Dr. Simon receives manycalls and letters from the parents of studentsattending B.H.S. concerning their childrensproblems and praising the good work being doneby the teachers and faculty. He also worksclosely with the Parent-Teacher Association andadvises them on many problems. Dr. Simon isChairman of the Curriculum Committee of theIndiana Association of Secondary-School Principals. He is also on the Faculty of IndianaUniversity as a Lecturer and Consultant inTeacher Training and meets regularly with theDean of the School of Education at I.U. Whencalled upon he assists the I.U. chairman of theNorth Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools in evaluating various high schoolsin Indiana. Dr. Simon is still active as a Colonelin the Air Force Reserves.Dr. Simon received his A.B. degree fromIndiana University and his A.M. and Ph.D.degrees from the University of Chicago.81
