With a careful eyeas to finance, and a great concern for their responsibility to the people,they are at the same time long-sighted in policy, and are at all timesopen to suggestion from their constituents, and from the best authorities in the world of education.The board meets twice a month, and in general looks after thefinances of the school system, the buildings and equipment, and electsteachers upon the recommendation of the superintendent of schools.It allows all bills for the school, and signs and sells bonds for erectionof new buildings and improvements of different kinds.Mr. Tirey, superintendent of schools, attends the meetings ofthe board, and Miss Ida E. Fleener, Clerk of Schools, acts as clerk forthe board.
